event: step right up

[Sometime during the night, it seems something new has arrived. Nothing threatening this time, though. It seems the carnival has come to town!

Where normally there's only a plain grassy area in the town park, now there are rows and rows of brightly colored and lit stalls, bursting with food and games. All the stalls are manned by drones, though none you've seen around before. Besides that, it looks like there are a few fun looking rides, an exciting show, and a swell funhouse that's sadly boarded up for the time being.

So everything is pretty old and rusty, that just lends it charm. And please don't mind the grime, the strange smells, or the slightly haunting music. Have a sense of adventure, there's nothing off about any of this at all.

Get ready for some good ol' fashioned fun!]

[The best part of the carnival? The games, of course! If you walk down through the park, you'll see rows of different games to play, all with their own prizes! Adorable baby dolls (most with one eye missing), cackling clown toys, dusty old jewelry (maybe for your best gal?), mangy teddy bears, paddleballs, stuffed hazmats, and something strange in a jar. Just look at the sign in the center of the row of games and decide what you'll play.

[Some delicious carnival food is available fresh for you to buy! The menu includes deep fried hot dogs, deep fried burgers, deep fried milkshakes, deep fried pies, and deep fried ice cream! Everything is greasy and delicious, and also guaranteed to give you food poisoning.]

[Of course the best part of a carnival are the rides! The old ferris wheel in the center of the carnival is the perfect place to go with a friend, or maybe a steady date! Of course, this thing has seen better days. Once you're on it, they're a strong likelihood you and your partner will find yourself stuck at the top for hours on end.]

[Roller coasters are fun for everyone, and this is no exception! Ouch, except maybe not that drone whose hand was just chopped off...or everyone in those two cars that just crashed. Let's just say that if you ride this roller coaster you might have fun...or you might be horribly maimed or killed. But isn't the thrill half the fun?]

[Towards the back of the carnival is a giant curtain behind which are some sights the world has never before seen! Pay 10¢, and step behind the curtain to walk into the carnival's freak show. Warning: This show is not meant for the kiddies! There may be some blood.

Hanging from the wall are several strange and bizarre images. On tables in the room are several amputated limbs-- a hand, a leg, part of a torso, that look badly burned and damaged. There are some partially dissected corpses of animals that are deformed-- a mutated fetal pig, a sheep missing its face. In the center of the room is rusted, bloody operating table that should be very familiar to many of you from earlier this year, as well as a bloody beet shredder in the corner that may be familiar to those of you who have been here any longer.

And hanging from three meat hooks on the back wall are the decaying corpses of a housewife and a man in a police uniform, as well as a clean, unbloodied tie.

[Tucked away to the side of the freak show is a little mechanical fortune teller booth. Put a nickel into the machine, and you'll receive a piece of paper with your fortune printed on it. Of course, almost anyone gets the same generic fortune: ]

"Beware! Danger is in your future! A great catastrophe approaches!"

[But if you're lucky, you may receive something special.]

[At the far side of the carnival is an old funhouse, lit up brightly at night. Sadly, it's boarded up; there's no possible way to get inside. But it sure looks like fun. Despite the loud, ominous creaking and clanking that can be heard, or the dark shadows that can sometimes be seen in the windows, or the occasional sound of heavy breathing if you walk too close.]

[Billy takes one of the guns, and fires, aiming to hit three of the still targets and one of the moving ones!]

[Sadly (and somewhat suspiciously), all of Billy's shots miss. At one point one pellet seems about to hit the target, when it suddenly changes directions.

This stupid thing is rigged!

[But Billy forks over another 5 cents and plays again. This time, he tries to shoot just before or just after the moving targets.]

[Billy hits one of his targets, so he'll win a small clown doll with blank, hollow eyes.]

[ The space marine walks up to the machine, intrigued, and will wait patiently to get the little piece of paper, calling it reconnaissance. ]

[The funhouse catches Luke's interest, and he's trying to peek inside hoping that he might be able to see something through the boards.]

[Luke isn't expecting much out of the fortune teller's booth, but he'll put a nickel in anyway.]

[Henry's going to approach the machine, looking up at it. It looks kind of creepy in his opinion but he's going to put in a nickel and wait for his fortune. He's not here to have fun. There's answers here, and he needs to find them.]

[ Garviel will pay for and take up one of the BB guns, removing his gauntlets so he can aim it even with his oversized hands and fingers, his superior Astartes skills and genehancement, as well as specialized organs, making shooting slow-moving targets hopefully fairly easy. He's doing this primarily to test just how the mechanics of this particular blood-game of the town's hidden masters work. ]

[The future is yet another of life's greatest riddles, is it not? He's not optimistic, but Edward will humor Mayfield a little, placing a nickel into the machine.]

Hey, h-how long has this been here?

[Latvia comes running up behind him, a little out of breath and still rather tired. After staying up all night the sleep he got during the day just hasn't been enough]

(Twilight's not usually one for fortune telling, but she'll go right ahead and insert a nickel just to give it a chance. She's not expecting much, but hey, might as well check it out.)

[Crowe stares down at his fortune.]

Why am I not surprised.

[Luke's hesitant to enter, and after paying to get in starts to immediately regret it. He doesn't get far enough to see the corpses of Samantha and Grady, because he stops and doesn't go any farther as soon as he sees that operating table.

He feels sick.]

[Crowe is checking this place out. Casing the joint, if you will. He's looking for which way might be the easiest way in.]

[Lucas cautiously approaches the games area and squints a little bit at the... interesting prizes. They were looking for something here, weren't they? ...What better way to find clues than to be awarded them? He'll approach the Fishin' booth.]

Ahh...

[Lucas squats down with his net and tries to scoop up the fish as carefully as he can. He has a little trouble at first, but this seemed to be the easiest game, anyway.]

You're always looking to get inside these kinds of places, huh?

[Lucas will appear behind Crowe with a smile.]

I think it's pretty well closed up.

[Superior Astartes skills, meet blatant cheating. The shots look like they're aimed correctly, but somehow all miss.]
