That works for a little while... but sooner or later, you risk losing hold of yourself.

I'm... a bit of a strange case. But here, with everything that happens, I've found it's the other people that keep me going.

"The lone wolf dies. The pack survives." [It makes sense to her, in an odd way. Like something her father would say.]

Exactly. Even if you don't have people from home here, the trick is to make connections to the other people. We're all stuck in the same situation for now.

He says his name his Chaucer. [She scrunches up her face.] I don't think he's very clever.

So he is the one I was thinking of. My brother was always fond of him.

I haven't run into him here, but there was at least someone very much like him at home. And there, well, I know everyone.

Seven Hells! Are you serious? [A few days ago, she might have dismissed her as a mad woman...and she was still seriously thinking about it. But she didn't seem mad. And this place was...weird.]

I am. I'm not on duty, as it were, here. But at home I divide life from all that comes before and all that comes after.

What comes after? [She knows what her mother would say. She'd tell her about the Seven again. But she had always leaned more towards her father's gods. And the Old Gods were more mysterious.]
