It's worked out quite well for us.

My mate and my husband seem to be getting along well enough. I hesitate to call that a family, yet.

Things are still tense between Death and Eddie, but that's almost like family too...

Eddie... assigned to his granddaughter? Sounds about right.

Egon's my assigned husband, yeah... his first wife is Science, and she doesn't share well.

[ Ilsa wrinkles her nose in a smile. ]

Yeah... he reminds me of my little brother in a few too many ways sometimes.

[She loves them, really. But they both have a bad habit of getting along poorly with others.]

Oh, I've met a few of those.

He needs human interaction, but really doesn't want it. It's almost like getting a child to eat a vegetable they don't like. So he gets it in small doses. He has gotten better.

I had to get my brother to make a bet with a mortal just to get him some human contact.

That is rather extreme. But I'm glad you did.

My brother was always... unique.

Every family has at least one, [ Ilsa giggles, ] even if that one is unique for being a CPA.

Really, they all are. So much time to develop their own unique quirks.

Age is one way to get from "weird" to "eccentric". [ Ilsa giggles, ] The other way at home usually involves piles of money.

[She laughs]

That one seems to be pretty universal.

Yeah, my maternal great-grandmother lived to be 112, and was a financial genius, so I got to see "eccentric" up close in the wild. [ Ilsa snickers. ]

At least it's never dull.

[ Ilsa giggles again. ] That's for sure.

Speaking of dull, [ Ilsa sobers again. ] I'm getting the feeling that there's incidents happening more often. Maybe it's because last April, I came to town in the middle of it.
