Birthdays always count. From what I have seen so far, you might get to have some of them twice. That doesn't make it any less meaningful.

There's no real way of knowing what's going on back home.

But I don't see why birthdays here wouldn't count. Some sort of time is still passing. Doesn't matter where you are as long as you've lived the year. That's still worthy of a celebration.

I was back in my world for a short while, and it seems time does not pass, so you don't have to worry about that.
But I don't know how it's about birthdays. I'm old enough that it doesn't matter, but maybe we turn back to the age we were before we came here.
