If your answer was: "That boy who could probably start a grease fire by looking at the cooker the wrong way", you're halfway there!

It's not that Touma can't cook, or doesn't like to. He's had to do it while he lived on his own back home, and he does a fair bit of it around the house (when his "mother" lets him). No, he's pretty content (and by content I mean listless) as he works at filling orders and setting them up for others to take to the tables.

But things just happen around him. It's kind of like that clause in insurance policies that mention "act of God" or "force of nature". Except these kinds of acts of misfortune are not the sort he can do anything about, even if he does have his abilities back. ]

[ Right now the kitchen has been temporarily evacuated as the Mayfield Fire Department handles a bit of a mess in there and he is standing outside away from the drone crew, work uniform and apron on and looking just a bit scorched.

Looking at the building with despair, he sighs quietly to himself and hunches his shoulders. ] This is just my luck...

Exactly.

I'll just let someone else mess with the controls next time, since I'm stuck with this whether I like it or not. [ Protesting with the manager did no good at all. ]

Yeah, it's pretty easy to mess up with the jobs here since we're suddenly assigned them.. I know I felt really nervous in the pharmacy at first since I might give people the wrong drugs, but thankfully it turned out alright in the end.

So maybe you'll get used to your job all the same too.

Huh. They really will give us whatever job they feel like, instead of something we'd be good at. Ugh.

Maybe there are some people who are more matched to their jobs though, I don't know.. It's different than the work I did back home too, so that can't be it either.

Most of the things they seem to do are random, either way, like placing us all together in houses and fake families like this..

Exactly. I mean, what do they expect out of us when they treat us like this? I'm not saying I'd go along with it if they'd asked, but forcing us into these roles is just too weird.

I wouldn't really call it "cooking", but yeah, I guess I'll have to if they want me to not be a walking fire hazard.

Yeah, it's pretty weird.. It's like they want us to live some sort of normal life here, but then they go ahead and cause really weird things to happen that don't suit a regular life at all.

Well, if you're old enough, I guess. Not everyone has a job or if they do, they never mentioned it.

But basically it's just another thing that happens to people in the city, like these "families" we get put in with.

I hate this place more and more all the time. Why is no one working to get out? There must be a way, somehow.

It would be pretty convenient if we could just force the people in charge to let us out, but it's not that easy. And things keep... happening. It's impossible to ignore them and just focus on escaping.

Well, nothing is happening now. Why not take advantage of the moments of peace? It seems silly to wait.

Peace? Everyone is missing three days of time. I think that's kind of a big deal. What if they did something to us while we were in some kind of a coma? It's worth waiting to see if they're going to follow that up with something. I wouldn't put it past this place.

Perhaps you should also ask your fellow workers or even the drone. They might be able to instruct you in the correct way of using the fryer.

Nn. Maybe next shift. I didn't get to do much while they cleaned up after the incident. I didn't see anyone besides the drones in the kitchen today.

I'm not. I am missing my correct body, however, I do not think sitting and waiting for it to be returned to me is going to be as effective as searching for a solution myself. Similarly, I do not think that waiting for answers or an attack is as effective as investigating personal and arranging a counter attack. This place is far too complacent.
