[But usually, when he wakes up from these nightmares, he's alone, in his chair, with a headache from the goggles pushing into his forehead. When he wakes up in a bed, he just lays there for a long minute.]

Who are you? Where am I?
Phone: later
So tell me what kind of technology we're looking at, here.

Tch, beats the hell outta me. Looks like somethin' outta Better Home's 'N Gardens only reversed mixed with Leave it to Beaver. Who is this?
[The voice sounds heavy with suspicion.]
[phone]

[phone]
[He pauses for a moment.]

Any specific technology you're talking about? Because everything we get to deal with is no more modern than crap from the fifties.

And who is this, anyway?

[Listed off apathetically by someone who has had a very stressful month.
Oops, did you mean what we can use?]

Doesn't match the radio and TV that I heard we've got. Then again, I'm not surprised. Maybe this place is more clever than I gave it credit for.
And you are?

626 Topper go!
But she's not used to the person yelling at her, though she can't blame him.]
I'm Martha. Martha Jones. And this is a place called Mayfield. It's...how much do you know about time travel?
626 Topper go!
Still, he calms down when she responds rationally. His eye tics, and he blinks.]
Time travel? It's logistically impossible. The sheer amount of energy needed to get a mass of any size, let alone a human one, moving at a rate and in a direction to go backward in time is downright astronomical. It literally makes no scientific sense. The only way I could possibly buy it is with alien technology, and even then it's more the stuff of escapist saturday-morning cartoons than grounded in any actual sense and reasoning.
Freezing someone in a moment of time, however, is completely possible. It's exceedingly difficult, and burns through Wonderfluonium at an astronomical rate, but--
[Stop talking science and introduce yourself, Billy. This is what you get for falling asleep in your lab and waking up in an awkward situation.]
Billy. Billy Harris. So... Mayfield, huh?

Hello! [Look who's skipping up to you. She sure looks different. Short messy hair, candy corn horns, and grey skin.] Did you just arrive? I could have sworn there was a drone in your place just yesterday.
