It's possible but why waste the effort when we don't even know if there's a way to get home yet or if there even is a home to get to? Part of allowing them to survive is the fact that they are their screw ups are the only way we get information about where we are, what's outside, and where to go to next with things. As undesirable as that is, it's the way things are.
